Metabolic Engineering, Systems Biology, and Environmental Biotechnology Faculty Search

Washington University in St. Louis invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions at the assistant professor level in the areas of metabolic engineering, systems biology and environmental biotechnology for the fall 2012 academic year. Candidates should have a doctoral degree in chemical engineering, environmental engineering, or a related field of applied science. Exceptional candidates at the associate and full professor levels will also be considered.

Applications are sought from experimentalists and computational/ theoretical scientists with strong research experience and demonstrated excellence in systems approaches to areas including metabolic engineering, multiscale approaches to regulatory and signaling networks, and environmental biotechnology. Research areas of particular interest include metabolic engineering of microbes for biofuel production, systems biology for cell-wide analysis, and biotechnology and bioprocess engineering for energy and environmental applications.

New faculty members are sought who will complement existing strengths in the School of Engineering &Applied Science and the Department of Energy, Environmental & Chemical Engineering. The department has several innovative programs related to energy, environment, nanotechnology and other areas; details can be viewed at http://www.eece.wustl.edu. New faculty can also establish strong connections with existing systems biology programs and other areas of biological sciences within the university. Washington University in St. Louis has embarked on university-wide initiatives related to energy and the environment that include the International Center for Advanced Renewable Energy and Sustainability (http://i-cares.wustl.edu/) and the McDonnell Academy Global Energy and Environment Partnership (http://mageep.wustl.edu/). Depending on research interests, joint appointments in other departments and in other schools are available.

Successful applicants will be expected to establish an independent research program with substantial external funding. Exceptional applicants at the senior level are expected to have an outstanding record of research and educational accomplishments. All successful candidates are expected to teach relevant undergraduate and graduate engineering courses, conduct research, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and participate in University service . Qualified women and members of underrepresented minority communities are strongly encouraged to apply.
