Lecturer In Chemical Engineering (open rank)

The Mork Family Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at the USC Viterbi School of Engineering is seeking applications for a teaching position (Lecturer) to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of Chemical Engineering. This is a full- time, benefits eligible faculty position on the non-tenure track. The USC Viterbi School is committed to increasing the diversity of its faculty and welcomes applications from women, persons from underrepresented minority groups, veterans, and individuals with disabilities. We are interested in exceptional candidates at all levels.

Competitive candidates will have the training and experience necessary to teach effectively in a highly ranked Chemical Engineering department that advances undergraduate students through an accredited BS degree program and graduate students enrolled in MS and PhD programs. While we are interested in candidates with backgrounds in all areas of Chemical Engineering, we are particularly interested in candidates with a solid background in Thermodynamics, Fluid Flow and Mechanics, Heat Transfer, Transport Phenomena, Separation Processes, Laboratories for Unit Operations Process Dynamics and Controls, Chemical Reaction Engineering, Chemical Plant Design, Process Dynamics and Control.

The position is available August 16, 2019. This is primarily a teaching position; all candidates are expected to have a strong commitment to teaching. Lecturers spend the majority of time on teaching and teaching-related duties, with reduced obligation for research and University service. Qualified candidates should have a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field. While we seek applications at the level of Lecturer, in exceptional cases, applicants with significant teaching experience may also be considered for a commensurate higher level (e.g., Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor of the Practice, Professor of the Practice).

Applications should include the following:

Cover letter describing applicant’s background, area(s) of specialization and teaching experience;
Detailed curriculum vitae;
Statement of teaching interests and philosophy;
Contact information for at least three professional references, at least two of whom must be familiar with, and able to comment on, applicant’s teaching experience;
Applicants may optionally include a research statement;
Applicants are encouraged to include a statement on fostering an environment of diversity and inclusion.
To receive full consideration, all application materials should be received by December 10, 2018.

USC is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, protected veteran status, disability, or any other characteristic protected by law or USC policy. USC will consider for employment all qualified applicants with criminal histories in a manner consistent with the requirements of the Los Angeles Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring ordinance. In addition to its commitment to faculty diversity, the USC Viterbi School of Engineering is committed to enabling the success of dual career families and fosters a family-friendly environment.
