JOB DESCRIPTION/REQUIREMENTS: The Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at the University of Alabama in Huntsville invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Chemical Engineering. Applicants with a strong background in Chemical and Materials Engineering and demonstrated excellence in research and teaching are encouraged and invited to apply. A distinguished academic record, exceptional potential for creative research and a commitment to both undergraduate and graduate instruction is desired. The area of expertise is open and all Chemical Engineering research areas will be considered. The department is specifically interested in seeking applicants to complement and strengthen its curriculum and research thrust areas. Candidates with research interests in separations, transport, and process systems are invited to submit their application. The department is strongly committed to a diverse faculty and student body. Women and candidates from member groups traditionally under-represented in engineering are strongly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an internationally recognized and externally funded research program, advise graduate students, and demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering.
The candidate must have a PhD in Chemical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline to warrant appointment in the Department.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT: The Chemical and Materials Engineering Department has approximately 230 undergraduate students and about 10 graduate students. The Department has an ABET accredited undergraduate program, a M.S. program, and participates in two interdisciplinary doctoral programs in Materials Science and Biotechnology Science and Engineering, as well as the Chemical Engineering option through the Mechanical Engineering doctoral program. Active research and teaching programs exist in the areas of catalysis, thermodynamics, sustainable energy, nanotechnology, biomaterials, biomolecular and cellular engineering, and immunoengineering. The faculties and researchers in the department enjoy the close collaborations with NASA, Army Redstone Arsenal, HudsonAlpha Institute, and industrial partners.
ABOUT THE COLLEGE: The College of Engineering currently has a research focus that addresses three National Academy of Engineering (NAE) Grand Challenge problems: secure cyberspace; restore and improve urban infrastructure; and engineer tools of scientific discovery. In addition, COE has made recent investments in materials engineering, energy storage, biotechnology, cybersecurity, and systems engineering. The College enrolls nearly 35% of UAH’s undergraduates in ABET-accredited programs in aerospace, chemical, civil, computer, electrical, industrial and systems, mechanical, and optical engineering.
