University of Massachusetts Amherst
Armstrong-Siadat Endowed Professorship in Materials Science: The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Amherst invites applications for the Armstrong-Siadat Endowed Professorship in Materials Science. This position is open at the Full Professor or—for exceptional candidates with promise for rapid promotion— at the Associate Professor rank. Therefore, we are seeking a highly motivated, exceptionally qualified faculty member with an international reputation to establish and conduct research programs, including interdisciplinary collaborative research programs, in processing, properties or applications of materials, such as inorganic, organic, polymer, colloidal, nanostructured, or composite materials. The applicant’s research may be experimental or theoretical in nature and would preferably complement existing departmental and university strengths in materials science and engineering, bioengineering, polymers, catalysis, modeling and simulation, sustainable chemicals, energy engineering, thin film devices or strengths within the Institute for Applied Life Sciences (IALS).
Minimum Requirements: Faculty members are expected to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses, supervise graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, contribute significantly to the advancement of basic science and engineering as evidenced by scholarly publications, and develop a nationally recognized program of sponsored research. The candidate must have demonstrated impact at senior (Full or Associate) professor level or demonstrated equivalent impact in research and development. The successful applicant will hold a position in the Department of Chemical Engineering. The Department of Chemical Engineering has 20 full-time faculty members, over 60 graduate students, and over 425 undergraduates. Research expenditures exceeded $6.5M in the last fiscal year. The Department has a long history of successful interdisciplinary research. Preferred starting date is September 1, 2019.
Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Applications must be submitted online using the link posted at: http://umass.interviewexchange.com/candapply.jsp?JOBID=92537
The application must include a cover letter, full curriculum vitae, research plan, statement of teaching interests, three representative recent research publications, and a minimum of three references. Review of applications will commence on April 17, 2018. The committee will continue to accept applications until a suitable candidate pool is established.
The university is committed to active recruitment of a diverse faculty and student body. The University of Massachusetts Amherst is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer of women, minorities, protected veterans, and individuals with disabilities and encourages applications from these and other protected group members. Because broad diversity is essential to an inclusive climate and critical to the University's goals of achieving excellence in all areas, we will holistically assess the many qualifications of each applicant and favorably consider an individual's record working with students and colleagues with broadly diverse perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds in educational, research or other work activities. We will also favorably consider experience overcoming or helping others overcome barriers to an academic degree and career.
