Lecturer of Chemical Engineering

The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for a full-time Lecturer with Potential Security of Employment (tenure-track Lecturer) position, with an anticipated start date of Jan 1, 2018, or later. The Department is looking for exceptional individuals with enthusiasm for pedagogy, interaction with students in a laboratory setting, technical communication, and core undergraduate coursework.

A successful applicant should be committed to teaching and mentoring undergraduates, to improving the undergraduate Chemical Engineering program, and taking the lead role in management and teaching of the Chemical Engineering Undergraduate (Unit Operations) Laboratory. The ideal candidate will engage, excite, and challenge students in a laboratory setting; innovate, manage, and co-teach the Chemical Engineering Unit Operations Laboratory; and assist in core undergraduate teaching, curriculum development, and assessment.

Teaching assignments will include co-teaching the Chemical Engineering Jr/Sr Unit Operations Laboratory, encompassing laboratory experiments in separations, thermodynamics, transport phenomena, kinetics, and process control; technical writing; and may include individually and/or co-teaching core undergraduate classes. The teaching load will nominally be 3 courses per term, with the Winter/Spring Unit Operations Laboratories representing 2 courses each term. The salary will be commensurate with experience.

A PhD degree in Chemical Engineering is required, with a demonstrated record of teaching excellence.

Applications should include:
(1) Cover letter, succinctly summarizing the applicant's strengths, experience, and appropriateness for the position,
(2) Curriculum Vitae,
(3) Brief Teaching and Education statement, appropriate for the position,

(5) (Optional) additional resources if desired.

Applications must be submitted electronically at: https://recruit.ap.ucsb.edu/apply/JPF01075

Applications received by Oct. 31, 2017 will be given priority consideration, but the position will remain open until filled. Candidates are urged to learn more about the UCSB Department of Chemical Engineering at https://chemengr.ucsb.edu/.
