The Auburn University Department of Chemical Engineering invites applications for multiple tenure track faculty positions. These tenure track appointments are to become effective in August 2018.

Our department seeks outstanding candidates who have a Ph.D. in chemical engineering, petroleum engineering, or related field. The areas of expertise are open; however the individuals selected for these positions will be expected to contribute to the growth of at least one of the department’s strategic focus areas: energy and environment, advanced materials, computer-aided chemical engineering, and pharmaceutical/biomedical engineering.

Established in 1856, Auburn University is one of the nation’s premier comprehensive land, sea, and space grant institutions with a dynamic 150 year history of strong commitment to instruction, research, and outreach. Auburn University is located in the family friendly town of Auburn, Alabama, with a population of 50,000, a renowned school system and nationally recognized medical center. Auburn is located approximately 50 miles from Montgomery, the capital of Alabama, and 100 miles from Atlanta, Georgia, geographically providing a moderate climate with easy access to both beach and mountain recreational facilities. In the 2016 edition of the U.S. News and World Report ratings of America’s Best Colleges, it was ranked 46th among public universities. The University’s main campus enrollment is over 27,000 students, including approximately 22,000 undergraduates and 5,000 graduate students. There are over 1,200 full-time instructional faculty members distributed across nine Colleges and three Schools, with degrees offered in more than 200 academic programs.

In support of our strategic plan, Auburn University will maintain its strong commitment to diversity with standards to help ensure faculty, staff, and student diversity through recruitment and retention efforts.

The Auburn Department of Chemical Engineering has a strong and progressive research program and a long tradition of excellence in both graduate and undergraduate education. The department has 25 full-time faculty, several research staff and postdoctoral associates, 100 graduate students (more than 80 of whom are in the doctoral program), and almost 700 undergraduate students. The department maintains vibrant research programs with approximately $7.5 Million annually in sponsored research and recently concluded full renovations of its Ross Hall and Wilmore Laboratories which provide cutting edge research, instruction and office space. These renovations totaled over $40 Million.

Desired Qualifications: The candidates selected for these positions must demonstrate a strong commitment and potential to excel at both research and teaching in the area of chemical engineering. Additionally, the candidates will have a strong record of scholarly publication, an ability to attract and sustain externally sponsored research funding to support their research program, effectively teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and mentor graduate and undergraduate students.

Rank and salary are commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a closely related field. The candidates selected for these positions must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment. Excellent communication skills and a high level of personal motivation are required.

Review of applications will begin October 1, 2017, and will continue until candidates have been identified.
