The Isermann Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, NY, seeks outstanding faculty candidates for two full-time tenure-track positions. The first opening is at the Assistant Professor level. The second opening is for exceptional candidates at the Associate Professor level who may be eligible for the Peter K. Lashmet Career Development chair. The new faculty members will join a vibrant department at a time of unprecedented growth and renewal. The Department has strengths that include molecular biotechnology, interfacial engineering, and system/process dynamics. We are looking for outstanding individuals who will develop cross-cutting research to help further integrate these areas.

The candidates must have earned a Ph.D. (or foreign degree equivalent) in Chemical Engineering or a closely related Science/Engineering field. Degree requirements must be satisfactorily completed by the time appointment begins. In addition, candidates must demonstrate, through accomplishments, the promise of future distinction in scholarship and education.

Candidates for Associate Professor must have at least six years of experience; a proven record in attracting funding and conducting outstanding research; a strong commitment to education; evidence of effective teaching, and possess academic credentials to qualify for a tenured faculty appointment at Rensselaer. Industrial experience is desirable but not necessary. The successful candidates, at either level, will have duties that include teaching assigned undergraduate/graduate courses in the area of Chemical Engineering; establishing and maintaining a robust program of sponsored research, mentoring students; and engaging in a significant level of service to the department, the school, and the Chemical Engineering profession.

Founded in 1824, Rensselaer is the first technological university in the English-speaking world. It is a private research university located in historic Troy, New York, which is part of the greater capital region of New York that includes Albany, the capital, and Schenectady.
