A laboratory manager is sought at The University of Alabama’s Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, which includes a vibrant undergraduate program and researchâ€intensive M.S. and Ph.D.
programs.
Under limited direction of the Department Head, the Laboratory Manager will (1) assist in design, construction/setâ€up, maintenance and planning of undergraduate chemical engineering laboratory
courses, working alongside faculty, including teaching and evaluation of data analysis and technical writing associated with laboratory experiments, (2) be responsible for maintaining, calibrating and at times operating research equipment and training graduate students in research laboratories, and (3) develop specialized skills to assist in carrying out work on research with ChBE faculty, as appropriate.
The ChBE Laboratory Manager is expected to take a handsâ€on approach to assisting faculty, graduate and undergraduate researchers, and postdoctoral fellows with technical support for ChBE laboratory
classes and research projects.
A B.S. degree in chemical engineering or related field is required, with strong preference given to candidates with either a M.S. or Ph.D. in the field and/or industrial experience.
The candidate must have strong communication skills and be knowledgeable of common laboratory tools and software. Experience with data collection software, spectroscopy, gas chromatography, chemical reactor and distillations systems, as well as biological instrumentation, is desirable, as is experience with the design and outfitting of laboratory experiments.
