The successful candidate will contribute, through research and teaching, to a new interdisciplinary graduate program in Materials Science and Engineering at UB. Ideal candidates will complement existing research strengths in the department (http://www.cbe.buffalo.edu) and across the university. Applicants should submit a curriculum vita, statements of teaching and research plans, and names of at least three references via the UBJobs system (http://www.ubjobs.buffalo.edu), reference posting number 1200696. CBE@UB combines excellence and collegiality to provide an outstanding environment for our faculty and students. In the 2010 NRC assessment of doctoral programs, CBE@UB placed in the top 10 nationally in the categories of publications per faculty member, and awards per faculty member. Particular areas of research strength and focus in the department include biomedical engineering, nanomaterials engineering, and molecular and multiscale modeling. At present, we have multiple faculty searches and anticipate continuous growth over the next five years. An anticipated 30% increase in our faculty size is supported by university-wide strategic plans for growth in energy research, nanotechnology, materials research, bioengineering, and related areas where CBE plays a key role.

Significant resources, associated with the launch of the Materials Science and Engineering (MSE@UB) graduate program and related initiatives, are available to support the successful candidate for this position. Affiliation with the cross-disciplinary MSE@UB program will also provide the successful candidate with unique collaborative research opportunities and access to a diverse pool of outstanding graduate students.

The University at Buffalo is the largest and most comprehensive university in The State University of New York (SUNY) system, with about 19,000 undergraduates, 10,000 graduate students, and 1600 full-time faculty (which is expected to grow by 300 faculty over the next five years).
