TITLE
Assistant/Associate Professor, Chemical and Materials Engineering

JOB DESCRIPTION/REQUIREMENTS
The Chemical & Materials Engineering Department at the University of Alabama in Huntsville invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at Assistant or Associate Professor level depending on qualifications. Applicants must demonstrate a distinguished academic record and be prepared to develop or have developed an internationally recognized and externally funded research program in experimental materials science/engineering. We are especially interested in research that complements and synergizes with ongoing activities across the university and in the surrounding community. Applicants must also be committed to excellence in teaching chemical and materials engineering courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels. A PhD in chemical engineering or a closely related field is required. Women and candidates from member groups traditionally under-represented in engineering are strongly encouraged to apply.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department has approximately 140 undergraduate and 20 graduate students with an ABET accredited undergraduate program, an M.S. Program, and a Ph.D. Chemical Engineering option through Mechanical Engineering. Faculty in the department also participate in two distinct interdisciplinary Ph.D. programs, Materials Science and Biotechnology. Faculty have research specializations in catalysis, thermodynamics, sustainable energy, nanotechnology, biomaterials, biomolecular and cellular engineering, and immuno-engineering.

ABOUT THE COLLEGES AND MATERIALS-RELATED RESEARCH
The College of Engineering (COE) has five departments and sustains the largest enrollment in the university. Materials-related research is ongoing across the chemical, civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering departments within COE, across the chemistry and physics departments within the College of Science, and in the Center for Applied Optics.

ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY
The University of Alabama in Huntsville, classified as a Carnegie R1 Research Institute, is a comprehensive university offering academic and research programs in the Colleges of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; Business; Education; Engineering; Nursing; and Science. It has a population of nearly 9,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The university is adjacent to Cummings Research Park, the second largest research park in the U.S. and the fourth largest in the world. ABOUT HUNTSVILLE
Huntsville is culturally diverse, with the largest metropolitan area population in the State of Alabama. It maintains one of the highest per capita incomes and standards of living in the Southeast, and it has a high concentration of PhDs, engineers, and STEM workers. It correspondingly offers a commensurate variety of educational, recreational, and cultural opportunities while boasting of a number of museums, historic sites, parks, and professional sports venues that are unique to the region.
