Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s Department of Chemical Engineering invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant Professor level. Candidates should be interdisciplinary-minded and have a PhD in Chemical Engineering or related field. We especially encourage applicants with expertise at the interfaces of data science, materials, soft robotics, biotechnology and catalysis to complement existing and growing research efforts. WPI has top-rated interdisciplinary graduate programs in Data Science, Bioinformatics, Materials Science and Engineering and Robotics Engineering with emerging efforts in automation, learning sciences and global studies.

WPI’s Chemical Engineering Department, with 17 faculty, 400+ undergraduate and 50+ graduate students, is ranked number 6 (out of 150) in the nation by College Factual – USA Today, with cutting-edge research programs in molecular bioengineering, sustainability, functional materials and catalysis. Our collegial and diverse faculty work collaboratively in providing exceptional teaching and mentoring in the context of progressive interdisciplinary research to solve some of the most complex societal problems. With a broad research and education funding profile, we offer an incredibly vibrant environment for faculty and student growth and innovation. The Chemical Engineering department is housed in state-of-the-art facilities located at both Goddard Laboratories and the interdisciplinary WPI Life Sciences and Bioengineering Center at Gateway Park with neighboring access to PracticePoint healthcare alliance and Biomanufacturing Education and Training Center.

WPI's reputation as a rigorous and innovative university rests on the shoulders of its faculty. WPI is one of the nation’s oldest and premiere technological universities, founded in 1865 and located one hour west of Boston in Worcester, a growing scientific and technological hub of innovation. WPI is a highly selective private university with a diverse undergraduate student body of over 4,000 and 1,900 full-time and part-time graduate students. Its innovative project-enriched, interdisciplinary curriculum engages students and faculty in real-world problem solving, often at one of WPI’s global project centers. U.S. News and World Report consistently ranks WPI among the top 100 national universities and WPI was recently ranked No. 1 for “faculty who best combine research and teaching” (Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Ed, 2016). Central to WPI’s mission is maintaining a campus community where each person is welcomed, valued and feels a sense of belonging.
