Assistant or Associate Professor

The Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at West Virginia University invites applications for tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor depending upon qualifications. Candidates must have research expertise in one or more of the following areas (1) process systems engineering, including artificial intelligence techniques, and/or computations with an emphasis in energy systems, (2) catalysis, catalytic materials, and/or reaction engineering in the area of energy systems (3) materials processing (including polymeric materials and/or biomaterials) for synthetic sustainable applications.

Eligible candidates must have a PhD in chemical engineering or a related engineering discipline and at least 1 year of postdoctoral experience in academia, government or industry. Candidates must also have the ability to (1) teach a variety of courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels within the Department, (2) develop and sustain an externally funded research program leading to national and international recognition, support and mentor graduate and undergraduate students, postdoctoral fellows and other research personnel, publish peer-reviewed papers, make presentations at national meetings and collaborate within multi-disciplinary teams of faculty and other researchers within the department, college, and university and (3) perform service activities commensurate with the position and become a collegial faculty member. Candidates for the rank of Associate Professor must have an outstanding record of teaching, research and service.

West Virginia University is the comprehensive Land Grant University of the State of West Virginia with a main campus enrollment of over 29,000 students, and a Carnegie Classification of Highest Research Activity (R1 University). Morgantown and its vicinity have a population of about 62,000 residents and are ranked among the most livable small cities in the country. The community lies within a high technology corridor that also includes several federal research facilities, such as the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Energy Technology Laboratory, NASA’s Independent Verification and Validation Facility (IV&V), the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and the FBI, as well as private industry. The Statler College continues to grow, and currently has eight academic departments with over 4,700 students and 135 faculty members. It is nationally recognized for high quality teaching and research, as well as for its excellent faculty and students. The Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering has 14 tenure track faculty members and approximately 290 undergraduate and 55 graduate students. The Department offers degrees at the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. levels. The Biomedical Engineering program has eight participating faculty from several departments including Chemical and Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and Computer Science and Electrical Engineering.
