PROFESSOR OF PRACTICE IN CHEMICAL AND BIOMOLECULAR ENGINEERING

The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Lehigh University seeks applications for a non-tenure-track Professor of Practice faculty position with a preferred starting date of January 1, 2015 or earlier. The primary responsibility for this Professor of Practice will be the two semester capstone senior Process Design course. The design course covers both steady-state and dynamics/control in an integrated design setting. The course requires co-ordination of lecture material and invited speakers on specialized topics; and management of multiple industrially guided capstone design team projects for CHE seniors over a two semester period. Additional responsibilities include involvement in the Unit Operations Laboratory, industrial outreach for the Opportunities for Student Innovation (OSI) program in CHE, serving as academic advisor for CHE majors and primary liaison for industry relations with the department. We anticipate the candidate to be strongly involved in curriculum enhancements, professional development programs for students, and to provide a strong and visible representation in Chemical Engineering and related professional organizations such as AIChE, Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS) and ABET.

A doctoral degree in Chemical Engineering, prior industrial or academic experience relevant to teaching design, and working knowledge of process control are strongly preferred.

The campus has strong interdisciplinary and interdepartmental research and educational programs in a range of topics that include bioengineering, catalysis, materials, energy technologies, and nanotechnology, and industrial systems. In particular, the candidate is expected to interact closely with the Integrated Product Design and Technical Entrepreneurship programs and translate relevant best practices to the capstone process design course. Lehigh University is one of seven recipients in 2010 of an NSF ADVANCE Institutional Transformation Grant to enhance recruitment, retention, and the advancement of women faculty in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields at Lehigh.

Candidates should submit electronically a cover letter highlighting their main achievements, curriculum vitae, a detailed statement of their teaching philosophy and professional interests, and the names and addresses of four (4) references using the on-line application form at https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/4419. Inquiries should be addressed to: Professor Cesar Silebi (chesearch@lehigh.edu), Chair of the Search Committee, Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Lehigh University. Review of applications will begin immediately. Full consideration will be given to applications submitted by September 30, 2014, but applications will be considered until the position is filled.
