The Chemical and Biological Engineering Department at Colorado School of Mines is seeking applications for the William K. Coors Distinguished Chair of Chemical and Biological Engineering. From its inception in 1952, the Chemical and Biological Engineering Department has focused on education and basic and applied research aimed at problems of national interest. We maintain a high-quality, well-funded research program (> $8 million in research awards in 2010) with strong participation from students at both the graduate and undergraduate level. Approximately 80 graduate students and postdoctoral scholars study within a broad research portfolio, including major programs in gas hydrates & energy, soft materials, biomedical research, electronic materials, simulation and modeling, and pedagogy. These research and educational activities take place in one of the most scenic locations in the United States.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate is expected to support and further enhance the mission and activities of the Department through a solid vision and strategy to strengthen the research program while also exhibiting effectiveness in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate will enhance the Department’s visibility, and be expected to provide leadership in scholarship and teaching. The new faculty member will enjoy freedom of research activities, professional development, and the opportunity to influence the next generations. Research areas in which faculty will be sought are broad, however; we have particular interest in catalysis, biochemical engineering, sustainable energy production, interfacial engineering, and biomedical engineering.

Qualifications: CSM encourages applications from qualified candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of our academic community through their research, teaching, and service. This position is for senior candidates with national/international recognition who are qualified to be tenured at the Full Professor level. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Chemical or Biological Engineering or pertinent related field and possess a distinguished record of accomplishment with a documented record of quality teaching, excellent scholarly research, and a strong record of acquiring external research funding.. The successful candidate will have demonstrated the highest ethical standards and will be expected to operate in a transparent and collegial manner.
